Older and younger employees' attitudes toward learning and growth

Abstract

In today's business world, the biggest problem is the lack of quality workforce. This thesis deals with the issue of differences between young and older employees in the company. Modern companies require constant growth and development in all departments of the company in order to be able to meet market demands. Today's environment could be described as very inconsistent and unpredictable, in which changes in the business environment often occur. The results of the research showed that the respondents in their workplaces in the segment of on the-job or off-the-job training generally have individual tasks at their disposal, while case studies are the least represented. When it comes to the attractiveness of a given training method, special assignments are the most attractive to the respondents, while internship, lectures, audio visual training, and e-learning are the least attractive to them. Of the total number of respondents, the largest number of respondents stated that they were “quite satisfied” with aspects of formal training, while the smallest number of respondents were “not satisfied at all”. The results indicate that more than half of respondents believe that employees over 55 are just as productive as young employees, while slightly more than 1/4 of respondents believe that older employees aged 55 are less productive than younger employees.
