Abstract

Trend prezaduženosti kućanstava u Europskoj uniji je višedimenzionalni fenomen jer se isti razlikuje od zemlje do zemlje i na njih utječe niz čimbenika, uključujući ekonomske uvjete, razine duga kućanstava, stope nezaposlenosti i vladine politike. Prezadužena kućanstva mogu imati značajne društvene i ekonomske implikacije, čiji se utjecaj prelijeva na cjelokupno gospodarstvo. U posljednjem desetljeću došlo je do porasta zaduženosti potrošača u zapadnim zemljama, što je izazvalo zabrinutost zbog njezinog gospodarskog i društvenog učinka. Konkretno, prezaduženost privlači pozornost nacionalnih i međunarodnih vlasti zbog potencijalnog učinka na održivost zaduženosti kućanstava, a time i na stabilnost financijskog sustava. Kućanstva često ulaze u začarani krug duga s ciljem postizanja višeg standarda, kako bi nadoknadila prihode od rada ili zbog nesretnih okolnosti koje su ih zadesile. Sa socijalnog stajališta, prekomjerna akumulacija dugova popraćena ograničenom likvidnošću kućanstava uzrokuje pogoršanje socijalnog i ekonomskog blagostanja što ima za posljedicu socijalnu isključenost i siromaštvo.

Abstract (english)

The trend of household over-indebtedness in the European Union is a multidimensional phenomenon as it varies from country to country. It is influenced by a number of factors, including economic conditions, household debt levels, unemployment rates and government policies. Over-indebted households can have significant social and economic implications, the impact of which spills over into the entire economy. In the last decade, there has been an increase in consumer indebtedness in Western countries, which has raised concerns about its economic and social impact. In particular, over-indebtedness attracts the attention of national and international authorities due to its potential effect on the sustainability of household indebtedness and thus on the stability of the financial system. Households often enter a vicious cycle of debt in order to achieve a higher standard, to compensate for an income from work or because of unfortunate circumstances that have befallen them. From a social point of view, the excessive accumulation of debts accompanied by limited liquidity of households causes the deterioration of social and economic well-being, which results in social exclusion and poverty.
