Abstract

U ovom diplomskom radu napravljen je detaljan pregled prednosti i nedostataka ulaska u Europsku uniju, shodno tome i ulaska u Eurozonu. Na početku rada definirani su učinci stvaranja monetarne unije europskih zemalja, zatim je opisano koje je kriterije potrebno zadovoljiti te su opisana kretanja makroekonomskih agregata tijekom pristupanja Europskoj uniji. U drugom dijelu rada pozornost je usmjerena na odabrane zemlje Europske unije koje su zanimljive za promatranje zbog sličnosti sa Hrvatskom. Posebna pozornost posvećena je baltičkim zemljama (Estoniji i Latviji), Poljskoj i Republici Hrvatskoj. Baltičke zemlje su tranzicijske zemlje koje su ušle u Eurozonu te su stoga zanimljive za promatranje jer je i Hrvatska takav tip zemlje, izuzevši članstvo u Eurozoni. Poljska s druge strane predstavlja jedno dinamično gospodarstvo koje ima mogućnosti preuzeti euro i ući u Eurozonu, ali još zbog određenih faktora to nije u mogućnosti napraviti. Bitno je naglasiti da ulaskom u Eurozonu sve države članice imaju određene koristi, ali i određene troškove. Podaci za sve promatrane države se gledaju i analiziraju od dana pristupanja Europskoj uniji, zatim kroz financijsku krizu 2008. godine, te na kraju zadnji dostupni podaci.

Abstract (english)

In this graduate paper a detailed review of the advantages and disadvantages of joining the European Union, and consequently entering the euro area is made. At the beginning of the paper the effects of the creation of a monetary union of European countries are defined, then it is described what is necessary to meet the criteria and macroeconomic aggregates during the EU accession are described. In the second part of the paper attention is given to selected European Union countries that are interesting to observe because of the similarities they have with Croatia. Special attention is given to the Baltic countries (Estonia and Latvia), Poland and Croatia. The Baltic countries are transition countries that joined the euro area and are therefore interesting to observe because Croatia is that type of country, except for the membership in the euro area. Poland, on the other hand, is a country that has a dynamic economy and is able to adopt the euro and enter the euro area, but was not able to do so because of certain factors. It is important to emphasize that joining the euro area by all Member States will have certain benefits and certain expenses. Data for all of the observed countries viewed and analyzed are from the date of accession to the EU, then the financial crisis of 2008 and of the last available data.
