Abstract

The internet, cloud computing and other technological advances have changed the ways
businesses operate. That change has also affected the hospitality industry. A new term has
arisen within the industry, “smart hotels”.
The purpose of this paper is to explore what smart hotels are, their development perspectives,
the obstacles they face in their development and the progress that has been made so far by some
hotels, in other words, to what degree have they really changed – become “smart”.
Also to explore how a smart hospitality ecosystem might look like and what its key components
might be.
