Abstract

In this day and age, the role of cryptography and information security presents an important asset to every organization. Data creation, distribution, and protection are all key factors that can easily decide the future of a business. Even if just one of them fails the damages could be catastrophic. No information security control is failproof, that is why it needs to be paired with encryption processes as one final prevention control. Even encryption won’t eliminate the security threat completely, however it provides a great sense of secureness. For those reasons, the topic will focus on factors defining the background of the above-mentioned cryptography and information security. The goal is to get an insight into how things work under the surface of a computer screen and how to recognize, face and tackle all the obstacles that might occur. As an example, the thesis will provide a literature overview based on several real life case studies with negative outcomes. Based on the material presented throughout the thesis major risks will be identified.
