Abstract

Emocionalna inteligencije se očituje u svim segmentima života, posebice tijekom studiranja. Svaki uspješan student mora biti emocionalno inteligentan, kako bi lakše i uspješnije završio studij. Emocionalna inteligencija utječe na njegov odnos s kolegama, profesorima, motivacijom, stresom, učenjem i korištenjem vremena. Razlika između studenta s visokom i niskom emocionalnom inteligencijom se očituje u motivaciji, upornosti, prepoznavanju tuđih emocija, odgovornosti, razumijevanju neverbalne komunikacije. Interpersonalne i intrapersonalne osobine pojedinca oblikuju njegov uspjeh tijekom studija. Interpersonalne vještine podrazumijevaju odnos pojedinca s drugim osobama u okruženju, a intrapersonalne vještine su usredotočene na odnos pojedinca sa samim sobom. Utjecaj emocionalne inteligencije na akademske uspjehe promatran je kroz otpornost na stres, motivaciju i upravljanje vremenom. Viša razina emocionalne inteligencije potiče motivaciju, povećava otpornost pojedinca na stres i omogućuje bolje upravljanje vremenom. Istraživanje je provedeno anonimnom anketom nad 103 studenta završne godine, svih usmjerenja Ekonomskog fakulteta, Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, koristeći predviđene skale za procjenu svakog od promatranih elemenata. Istraživanje je potvrdilo da su studenti sa višom emocionalnom inteligencijom, bili uspješniji u upravljanju vremenom i nošenjem sa stresom, te su se ta dva elementa studiranja pokazala kao najvažnija za ostvarivanje uspjeha, s posebnim naglaskom na otpornost na stres. Studenti s visokom otpornošću na stres su najkraće studirali, te su ostvarili najbolju prosječnu ocjenu tijekom studija. S druge strane nije pronađena izravna povezanost između više razine emocionalne inteligencije i boljeg ostvarenja akademskog uspjeha.

Abstract (english)

Emotional intelligence is manifested in all segments of life, especially during studies. Every successful student must be emotionally intelligent in order to complete their studies more easily and successfully. Emotional intelligence affects his relationship with colleagues, professors, motivation, stress, learning, and the use of time. The difference between students with high and low emotional intelligence is manifested in motivation, perseverance, recognition of other people's emotions, responsibility, understanding of non-verbal communication. The interpersonal and intrapersonal characteristics of an individual shape his success during studies. Interpersonal skills are reffering to individual’s relationship with other people in his surroundings, and intrapersonal skills focus on an individual’s relationship with himself or herself. The impact of emotional intelligence on academic achievement has been observed through resilience to stress, motivation, and time management. A higher level of emotional intelligence boosts motivation, increases an individual’s resilience to stress, and allows for better time management. The research was conducted by an anonymous survey of 103 final year students, all majoring in the Faculty of Economics, University of Zagreb, using the appropriate scales to assess each of the observed elements. The research confirmed that students with higher emotional intelligence were successful in time management and coping with stress, and those two elements proved to be the most important for achieving success, with a special emphasis on coping with stress. Students with high stress resistance studied the shortest, and achieved the best average grade during their studies. On the other hand, there was no direct association found between higher levels of emotional intelligence and better academic achievement.
