Abstract

Kao uvod u ovaj rad navedeni su opći podaci o otoku Hvaru te je prikazana analiza
dosadašnjeg razvoja turizma na otoku. Dosadašnji razvoj temeljio se na masovnom turizmu
koji je ostavio brojne negativne posljedice, ponajviše ugrozivši prirodne resurse koji
predstavljaju glavne konkurentske prednosti na kojima se temelji turistička ponuda otoka
Hvara. Održivi razvoj turizma pak udovoljava potrebama turista i domicilnog stanivništva
istodobno čuvajući resurse za budući razvoj te stoga predstavlja jedini kompetentni smjer u
budućem razvoju otoka Hvara. Razvoj specifičnih oblika turizma te razvoj eko poljoprivrede
istaknuti su u radu kao jedni od ključnih faktora održivog razvoja turizma na otoku Hvaru.

Abstract (english)

As an introduction to this work, general information are given about the island of Hvar and
analysis of the past development of tourism on the island is presented. The recent
development based on mass tourism left a number of negative consequences and particularly
endangered natural resources that represent a main competitive advantages that underlie
tourist offer of the island. Sustainable tourism development meers the needs of the tourists
and the local population and at the same time it preswrves resources for future development
and therefore it is the only competent way for the future development of the island. The
development of specific forms of tourism and the development of organic agriculture are
highlighted in this work as one of the key factors for sustainable development of tourism on
the island.
