Abstract

Leadership is a way of accomplishing one’s goals through the guidance and direction of his subordinates. It is also one of the most important skills in today’s business world. Like any other skill, it needs to be taught and developed. That is why it is important to start learning it at a young age. This master thesis will provide an in-depth analysis of how important are leadership skills to student’s in Croatia. Firstly, theoretical background about leadership will be provided. Theoretical chapters of this master thesis discuss leadership skills, leadership theories and define leadership and leaders. This provides the necessary theoretical information to understand the empirical research prepared for the purpose of writing this master thesis. Leadership can be defined using leadership theory and leadership style. Most important styles and theories are discussed in this master thesis with the conclusion being that each can be applied in a different business situation and leaders have to be able to adapt and change their leadership style. Following the theoretical part of this master thesis there is a research in the form of a questionnaire in which there were 83 participants. The questionnaire was prepared by the author using Google platform. The master thesis provides the results of the research through which it was concluded that leadership skills are very important to students in Croatia. Lastly, in the conclusion of this master thesis it is concluded that the research has proven that leadership skills are important to students in Croatia. Other conclusions were also that students believe they were not taught leadership skills during their study years up to date of this research and that they are interested in learning more. They also consider leadership skills to be of great importance in their future employment.
