Abstract

Europska ekonomska i monetarna unija (EMU) spaja nekoliko država članica Europske unije (EU) u kohezivni ekonomski sustav. Nasljednik je Europskog monetarnog sustava (EMS). Također se naziva i eurozona, Europska ekonomska i monetarna unija (EMU) predstavlja prilično široko područje, pod kojim je donesena skupina politika usmjerenih na ekonomsku konvergenciju i slobodnu trgovinu među državama članicama Europske unije. Razvoj EMU odvijao se kroz proces u tri faze, pri čemu je treća faza započela usvajanje zajedničke valute eura umjesto bivših nacionalnih valuta. To su ispunile sve početne članice EU osim Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva i Danske, koje su odustale od uvođenja eura. Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo je nakon toga napustilo EMU 2020. nakon referenduma o Brexitu. Ovaj rad prikazuje proces ulaska Republike Hrvatske u eurozonu gdje proces traje već deset godina te ističe njegove prednosti i mane.

Abstract (english)

The European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) unites several member states of the European Union (EU) into a cohesive economic system. It is the successor of the European Monetary System (EMS). Also called the Eurozone, the European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) represents a fairly broad area, under which a group of policies aimed at economic convergence and free trade among the member states of the European Union have been adopted. The development of the EMU took place through a three-stage process, with the third stage beginning with the adoption of the common euro currency in place of the former national currencies. This was fulfilled by all the initial EU members except the United Kingdom and Denmark, which abandoned the introduction of the euro. The UK subsequently left the EMU in 2020 following the Brexit referendum. This paper presents the process of the Republic of Croatia's entry into the Eurozone, where the process has been going on for ten years, and highlights its advantages and disadvantages.
